Common Questions & Answers:
Q. What are the rim heights used in this league?
A. K-2nd grade uses 8 feet and 3rd grade boys use the 9 foot rims.
Q. What is considered Double Teaming?
A. Help defense is allowed but double teaming is not unless you are in the key. Double teaming will not be called in the key. Double teaming is when two people are guarding one person.
Examples that are not double teaming are as follows:
- a defender is beat and another defender helps and either switches or gets back to his own guy.
- offense is dribbling and loses control of the ball and a nearby defender (who is in position of guarding his own guy) takes the ball.
- double teaming will not be called just because 2 defenders are near the offensive player. Both players need to be actively defending the offensive player.
Q. Who can participate in this league?
A. This league is for boys and girls that are in the grades kindergarten through 3rd grade. We are not offering any leagues for over 3rd grade.
Q. What are the divisions in this league?
A. Boys and Girls Combined - K/1st, 2nd, 3rd. A child may always play on older teams. Older children are not allowed to play down unless approved before hand. 2008 is the first year of having an all girls league. If we don't have enough teams to play all girls team then you will play against other boy teams of the same age or 1 year younger.
Q. Why is the cost so low?
A. Because we are not trying to make money. It is truly a non-profit organization. We only provide 2 staff members at the games and organization of
the schedule and communication between teams. Even the web
site work is being donated by PlanetAdvertise.com.
Q. Who referees the games?
A. For 2nd to 3rd grade we will have a trained referee that knows basketball. Parents
need to understand that everyone is learning and making mistakes.
Calls by the referee are used as teaching points instead of being
a negative experience.
Q. Where do we get the uniforms?
A. We are not picky on what you choose for uniforms. As
long as you match as a team, you can get any matching shirts that
you choose. For 3rd graders, you should have numbers. It is a good idea to get reversible jerseys just
in case the other team has the same color. And obviously,
your uniforms should be G rated and appropriate for children
playing and attending games. For a list of places that offer athletic uniforms click here.
Q. When and where are the games played?
A. Week days in the evening, usually Tues - Thursday. By doing this we don't take
up weekends. The games are played in district 93 schools. Because of the large response for the 2010 season, we may have to include Mondays and Fridays in order to handle all of the teams.
Q. Can parents come to games?
A. Absolutely. We do request that if you are the first
or last game of the night that you help setup and cleanup.
We also request your help in keeping the facilities clean every
time you are at a game so we can keep the use of the gyms. |
